Tragedy Strikes on Labor Day: Deadly Bus Crash in Mexico
A tragic bus crash on Labor Day weekend in Nayarit, Mexico, resulted in at least 11 deaths and 31 injuries. The bus overturned after veering off the highway near Amatlan de Canas, highlighting the frequency of deadly bus crashes in the country.
Tragedy struck during the Labor Day weekend when a tourist bus crashed in Mexico's western state of Nayarit, resulting in at least 11 fatalities and 31 injuries. The tragic incident occurred as the bus was en route from Jalisco and veered off the highway near Amatlan de Canas, confirmed the Nayarit state government.
The passengers, bound for a recreational center in Nayarit, were caught in the catastrophe that prompted an emergency response from both Nayarit and Jalisco crews. The authorities closed the road to facilitate rescue operations and to investigate the cause of the crash. Pictures shared by the Nayarit government depicted the bus lying on its side, covered in mud.
The incident underscores the pervasive issue of deadly bus crashes in Latin America, particularly on Mexico's highways. While buses remain a primary transport mode in the region, efforts are being made under President Claudia Sheinbaum to boost the nation's passenger rail network in northern and central Mexico.
