South Africa's World Cup Altitude Adventure: Ready to Soar in Mexico
The South African national team plans to arrive in Mexico two weeks prior to the World Cup to adjust to the altitude. They will play friendly games in preparation, facing Mexico, Czech Republic, and South Korea in the group stages. Coach Hugo Broos is optimistic about their chances.
South Africa's national soccer squad is gearing up for the World Cup by acclimatizing to Mexico's high altitude. Coach Hugo Broos has announced that the team will arrive two weeks early, hoping to adjust to Mexico City's 2,200-meter elevation.
Starting their pre-tournament camp in Pachuca from May 30, the team aims to gradually adapt and will face Nicaragua and Puerto Rico in friendlies. Following these preparations, South Africa will tackle Group A opponents Mexico, the Czech Republic, and South Korea, with hopes of advancing past the group stage for the first time in their fourth World Cup appearance.
Broos, a seasoned World Cup competitor, believes his team is capable of surprises, despite drawing against hosts Mexico in the tournament opener. With matches across multiple locations, including the United States and Canada, South Africa's campaign promises both challenge and opportunity.
