India and Ecuador Forge New Paths in Bilateral Cooperation

India and Ecuador are exploring a preferential trade pact to boost collaboration in healthcare, agriculture, and digital technology. Discussions between Foreign Ministers S Jaishankar and Gabriela Sommerfeld focused on strengthening ties and resulted in Ecuador joining the International Solar Alliance. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed to support socio-economic projects in Ecuador.

India and Ecuador are on the cusp of enhancing their bilateral relationship through the possibility of a preferential trade pact. Key areas of cooperation discussed include healthcare, agriculture, and digital technology.

Speaking this week, Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and his Ecuadorian counterpart Gabriela Sommerfeld Rosero reviewed existing collaborations and looked at new opportunities for cooperation. As noted by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Sommerfeld's two-day visit, joined by Deputy Alejandro Davalos, served as a 'new chapter' in the ties between both countries.

The discussions led to Ecuador joining the International Solar Alliance and the International Big Cat Alliance. Additionally, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed for Indian grant assistance in Ecuador, focusing on development projects to uplift local communities. Conversations also took place about forming a roadmap for a preferential trade agreement, expanding pharmaceutical exports, and improving health care cooperation between the two nations.
