Gurreet Singh Gopi, an Indian national diagnosed with terminal-stage cancer, has been successfully repatriated from Qatar to India through coordinated efforts by a community group and the Indian Embassy in Doha. Gopi, who had been employed in Qatar for many years, faced a daunting phase of life after his cancer diagnosis, compounded by the absence of familial support.
The Singh Sewa Group Qatar, affiliated with the Indian Community Benevolent Forum (ICBF), emerged as a crucial support system for Gopi, offering home-cooked meals, emotional care, and assistance with necessary documentation. Kulwinder Singh Honey and Garima Mehandiratta collaborated with Eish Singhal, First Secretary at the Indian Embassy, to ensure a smooth repatriation process. Gopi safely returned on May 1, greeted with immediate medical care at Amritsar Airport.
Vipul, the Ambassador of India to Qatar, commended the efforts of all involved parties, including Hamad Medical Corporation and Qatar Airways, for facilitating Gopi’s dignified return. Currently undergoing treatment in Tarn Taran, Gopi is expected to seek specialized medical attention from PGI Chandigarh shortly. (ANI)
