The District Collector, Dr Bharat Bastewad, issued the directive after receiving complaints and concerns regarding public safety posed by these practices. HPCL complied with the order and ceased supplying fuel to the implicated stations, pending a thorough investigation.

The district administration had already mandated stringent bans on selling fuel in loose containers, emphasizing safety risks. HPCL's measures adhere to Marketing Discipline Guidelines, indicating potential legal repercussions for the involved parties.
