Balrampur Chini Mills: Pioneering the Bioplastic Revolution
Balrampur Chini Mills Ltd, a prominent sugar firm in India, is set to generate significant revenue with its new bio-plastic plant in Uttar Pradesh. The plant, focusing on Poly Lactic Acid production, is expected to boost annual revenue by Rs 2,000 crore, reflecting in the fiscal year 2027-28.
In a significant move towards sustainable manufacturing, Balrampur Chini Mills Ltd is on track to commission its new bio-plastic plant in Uttar Pradesh by the December quarter. The company expects this 80,000-tonne Poly Lactic Acid (PLA) plant to generate Rs 2,000 crore in annual revenue once fully operational.
The bio-plastics produced will be derived from renewable resources such as sugarcane and corn starch, aligning with global sustainability trends. Already, the plant has secured its first institutional order for green bioplastic products from the Lucknow Cantonment Board, underscoring the demand for eco-friendly alternatives.
With the new plant, Balrampur Chini aims to significantly impact the biodegradable plastic market. The expansion aligns with the company's overall growth strategy, which includes diversified operations in distillery and power cogeneration. The firm anticipates full capacity operation given the rising demand for suitable solutions.
