Three persons, including a seven-month-old boy, died and 33 others were injured after a Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus overturned in Gadchiroli district on Thursday, a police official said.

The incident took place around 7:30am near Navegaon-Murkhala on Chandrapur road when the driver lost control of the vehicle at a sharp curve, he added.

The bus, on its way to Umarkhed in Yavatmal district, crashed through a protective iron barricade before turning turtle in a field nearby, the official said.

''The deceased are all from Gadchiroli. They have been identified as Khwaja Shahabuddin (60), resident of Desaiganj, Laxmi Durkiwar (55) of Navargaon and seven month-old Shivansh Navghare. The child died during treatment in a nearby hospital,'' the official said.

Thirty-three persons, comprising passengers as well as the driver and conductor of the vehicle, were injured and have been admitted to the district general hospital, he added.

''Some of the injuries are significant. However, doctors have said all passengers admitted to hospital are in stable condition. A probe has begun into the incident,'' the official informed.
