The government of India has announced plans to roll out DigiYatra, a biometric-based entry system, at 27 more airports by next year. This expansion will increase the total number of airports using the technology to improve passenger flow and reduce entry times significantly.
The DigiYatra facility, which employs Facial Recognition Technology, facilitates seamless and contactless movement at airports. Following its implementation in 38 airports, users have already experienced quicker airport entry, with processing times reduced from 15 to just 5 seconds per passenger. The DigiYatra app, downloaded over 2.4 crore times, has facilitated more than 10 crore seamless journeys.
Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu shared that India expects passenger traffic to hit 50 crore by 2030, doubling to nearly 100 crore by 2040. The app, which supports 11 languages, plans to add 11 more by year's end. Passenger information with DigiYatra is encrypted and stored safely, shared only briefly with origin airports for verification.
