Elephant Attack Claims Man's Life in Nilgiris Village
A 44-year-old man from an Irular tribal village in Nilgiris district died following an attack by a wild elephant. Authorities were alerted after villagers discovered his body. A police investigation is underway, and the forest department has issued advisories due to increased elephant activity.

A tragic incident occurred in Mettukal Village near Kotagiri in the Nilgiris district, where a 44-year-old resident lost his life following an attack by a wild elephant. The victim, identified as Kumar, was from an Irular tribal community within lower Kotagiri.
The attack happened while Kumar was walking along a road connecting his village to the main highway on Friday night. Villagers discovered his body the following day and informed the authorities. Subsequently, a team from the Forest Department, along with local police, conducted an investigation at the site. Kumar's body was retrieved and sent for a post-mortem examination at Kotagiri government hospital.
In the aftermath, local officials met Kumar's wife, Chitra, and provided her with immediate financial assistance. Meanwhile, the forest department has cautioned the public about elevated elephant activity due to the jackfruit season, advising caution during nocturnal outings in areas near forests.
