Mexico's government has reaffirmed its support to extend the USMCA trade agreement for 16 years, with Economy Minister Marcelo Ebrard leading bilateral talks with the US.

Mexico's ​government has reiterated ‌its support ​to extend the U.S.-Mexico Canada (USMCA) trade agreement ‌for 16 years, Economy Minister Marcelo Ebrard said on Tuesday, as talks ‌are underway to renew the ‌regional free trade pact.

"Mexico's intention and position is that the treaty should be ⁠extended," ​Ebrard ⁠said. "Keep in mind that the treaty ⁠will remain in effect for many more ​years, but we would like ⁠it to be extended to 16 years."

Mexico ⁠and ​the U.S. have engaged in bilateral talks to extend ⁠the treaty, but negotiations with Canada ⁠have ⁠lagged behind.
