Mexico backs extending USMCA trade pact for 16 years
Mexico's government has reaffirmed its support to extend the USMCA trade agreement for 16 years, with Economy Minister Marcelo Ebrard leading bilateral talks with the US.
Mexico's government has reiterated its support to extend the U.S.-Mexico Canada (USMCA) trade agreement for 16 years, Economy Minister Marcelo Ebrard said on Tuesday, as talks are underway to renew the regional free trade pact.
"Mexico's intention and position is that the treaty should be extended," Ebrard said. "Keep in mind that the treaty will remain in effect for many more years, but we would like it to be extended to 16 years."
Mexico and the U.S. have engaged in bilateral talks to extend the treaty, but negotiations with Canada have lagged behind.
