India Accelerates Low-Carbon Mobility with Flex-Fuel Vehicles

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri announced the launch of India's first flex-fuel motorcycle. The initiative aims to reduce crude oil imports and boost the rural economy through ethanol demand, marking a significant step towards mass-market flex-fuel mobility in the nation's vast two-wheeler ecosystem.

In a significant move towards sustainable transportation, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri unveiled India's first flex-fuel motorcycle manufactured by Hero MotoCorp. The launch signifies a pivotal shift in energy policy as the country looks to cut its crude oil dependency and advance low-carbon mobility options.

Highlighting the move as a new era in India's energy narrative, Minister Puri emphasized the motorcycles' capability to operate on ethanol blends ranging from E20 to E85. With over 300 million active two-wheelers nationwide, this innovation marks the beginning of mass-market flex-fuel mobility, playing a crucial role in advancing the country's Aatmanirbhar Bharat mission.

Flex-fuel bikes not only promise cost-effective vehicle ownership for consumers but also hold the potential to transform the rural economy. By reducing crude oil imports, supporting farms, and cutting emissions, the initiative aligns with India's ambitious environmental goals. E85 fuel is set to be more affordable than conventional options and easily available at designated locations.
