Delhi University: Panel recommends ad-hoc teachers be given maternity leave

A Delhi University panel Thursday recommended that ad-hoc teachers working in the varsity be granted maternity leaves.

The Regulation Amendment Committee also recommended that ad-hoc teachers be paid salaries during the summer and winter vacations.

According to a member of the committee, more than 4,500 teachers are working as ad-hoc faculty in different colleges and more than half of them are women.

Professor Hansraj Suman, a member of the committee, said women ad-hoc teachers have been facing a lot of problems as they are not entitled to maternity leaves.

He said the recommendations would be forwarded to the Academic and Executive Councils of the university and after the approval, would become an ordinance.
