Nokia and partners deploy optical LAN solution in Korean schools to support digital learning

Nokia along with its distribution partner, Dongkuk Systems, and Erum I&C, has successfully deployed its Optical LAN solution in 100 Korean schools including kindergartens, elementary, middle and high schools to enhance the existing infrastructure and provide a high-capacity network to support digital learning.

With the newly upgraded network, educational institutions can now conduct Augmented Reality (AR)/Virtual Reality (VR)-based classes. Additionally, the network can be upgraded to 10G and beyond without any additional cabling in the near future.

The deployment is part of the Korean Ministry of Education's Green Smart School program that aims to transform existing school facilities into smart learning environments for new-age and digital ways of learning. The digital transformation program will be extended within the Gyeonggi-do region and to additional schools across the country.

In a press release, Nokia said its solution including Passive Optical LAN (POL), Optical Line Terminal (OLT) and Optical Network Terminal (ONT), streamline operations and reduce energy consumption cost-effectively by cutting down equipment and cabling expenses. The solution has been customized to cater to the specific needs of the schools.
