The British Council, in collaboration with HSBC India, launched a pioneering initiative on Thursday aimed at equipping India's youth with vital skills to combat climate impacts and assist in the country's transition to a net-zero economy.

The 'Climate Skills: Seeds for Transition India' project is part of the British Council's broader international strategy to promote a global climate skills framework. This initiative seeks to empower young individuals, educate decision-makers on alternative climate education strategies, and tackle climate challenges at multiple levels.

The program intends to partner with various governments, communities, and institutions to develop practical solutions for better understanding climate change impacts and fostering climate resilience.

As per the project outline, the initiative aims to directly engage 2,000 youths and train 300 master trainers in India. The project, which will run until February 2026, targets individuals aged 18 to 30 across five countries: India, Brazil, Indonesia, Mexico, and Vietnam.

Scott McDonald, Chief Executive of the British Council, highlighted the significance of the project, stating, 'By equipping the youth with essential climate resilience skills, they can lead the transition to greener economies and drive positive change in their communities.'
