A lawyer has petitioned the Delhi High Court to take immediate action following the tragic deaths of three UPSC aspirants caused by flooding in the basement of a coaching center. Advocate Satyam Singh emphasized in his letter the pervasive negligence plaguing educational facilities in areas rife with coaching centers operating in violation of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) regulations.
'The recurring nature of these incidents points to a systemic failure in ensuring student safety. The right to education must not come at the cost of the right to life under Article 21,' Singh stated.
Singh highlighted the absence of fire safety measures and proper emergency exits in coaching centers, along with the issue of overcrowding. He called for the mandatory installation of flood prevention systems and stringent penalties, including closure and criminal charges, against non-compliant centers. The judiciary has been asked to take suo motu action to enforce existing safety regulations.
