Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar on Monday likened the culture of coaching centres to 'gas chambers' and stressed the need to examine the extensive expenditure on newspaper advertisements by these institutions.
The Rajya Sabha held a short discussion under rule 176 regarding the deaths of three UPSC aspirants in a Delhi coaching centre due to water logging. Dhankhar remarked, 'Coaching has virtually become commerce,' highlighting the high earnings and commercialization within the sector. He emphasized that the excessive sums spent on advertisements and new infrastructure by coaching centres ultimately come from students.
Dhankhar called for greater awareness of alternative employment and skills opportunities for the youth. He also lamented the practice of boycotting and rebuffing discussions by certain party leaders when summoned to the Chairman's chamber, describing it as detrimental to Parliamentary decorum.
