IIT Madras Receives Landmark Rs 228 Crore Donation from Alumnus Dr Krishna Chivukula

Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, has received a significant funding of Rs 228 crore from US-based industrialist and entrepreneur Dr. Krishna Chivukula, officials announced on Tuesday. The institute plans to use the funds for various initiatives according to Director V. Kamakoti.
Chivukula, an IIT Madras alumnus, is credited with this contribution, which is among the largest the institution has ever received. Kamakoti highlighted that the endowment adds to the Rs 513 crore in funding raised during 2023-24, showcasing a substantial increase from previous years.
In recognition of Chivukula's contributions, IIT Madras has established the Krishna Chivukula Block on campus. The funds will support scholarships for international students, research grants, an undergraduate fellowship program, sports scholarships, and the 'Shaastra' magazine, among other activities.
