The Allahabad High Court has mandated the Uttar Pradesh government to create a fresh selection list for appointing 69,000 assistant teachers in the state.

The court annulled the previous selection lists from June 2020 and January 2022, which had 6,800 candidates. Justices AR Masoodi and Brijraj Singh passed the order while resolving 90 special appeals against a March 2022 single-judge order.

The latest ruling, uploaded on Friday, instructs mitigating adverse impacts on current teachers by allowing them to complete the ongoing academic session. The bench also ruled that reserved category candidates qualifying for the general merit list should be migrated accordingly, and vertical reservations be extended to horizontal categories.

The state has been given three months to complete the new selection list, which will significantly impact the ongoing recruitment process.
