Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has called on Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to address the student protests at the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU). The demonstrations, ongoing for five days, have significantly disrupted the central university's daily operations.
The protests, which demand the removal of the registrar and deputy registrar, have now expanded to include calls for the resignation of Vice-Chancellor Prof Prabha Shankar Shukla. Students accuse the VC of failing to manage the institution effectively.
NEHU's faculty, urging action, has appealed to Meghalaya Governor CH Vijayashankar. Meanwhile, Prof Shukla has promised an Executive Committee meeting by November 11 to address concerns, but the protests continue unabated.
