In a distressing turn of events, five third-year students at the Government Nursing College have been apprehended for allegedly subjecting first-year students to a series of shocking ragging incidents, authorities reported.

Allegations from the newcomers, who described months-long harassment involving brutal physical abuse and extortion, prompted the crackdown. The college, functioning under the Government Medical College, had to suspend the accused following an inquiry under anti-ragging regulations.

The police have identified the arrested as Samuel Johnson, Rahul Raj, Jeev, Rijil Jith, and Vivek. Victims reported horrific experiences, including abuse inflicted with dumbbells and compasses, extortion for alcohol purchases, and more. Despite enduring such ordeals, the harassed students refrained from informing hostel officials or parents, leading the college to act swiftly on the complaint. The investigation handed over to the police confirmed these alarming allegations.
