Navigating Leftist Ideals: JNU's Vice-Chancellor Draws Strength from SPPU Experience

Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Vice-Chancellor Dr. Santishree Pandit recently highlighted her past experience at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), suggesting it was more 'Leftist' than JNU. Despite this not being overtly visible, she credited her time there for shaping her leadership skills.

Dr. Pandit, who made history as JNU's first female Vice-Chancellor in 2022, shared these insights during a lecture series organized by the Maharashtra Education Society. Her experience at SPPU equipped her with the courage needed to navigate JNU's challenging environment, she noted.

Addressing curriculum controversies, she mentioned that while Maharashtra lacks religion-based courses, JNU houses diverse study centers. She praised JNU's motto 'Tamaso Ma Jyotirgamaya' (lead me from darkness to light), reflecting the inclusive values she supports.
