Violence among youth is becoming akin to a narcotic, according to Kerala's Excise Minister M B Rajesh, who addressed the Assembly on Tuesday. He noted an increase in the 'sadistic mindset' among students, which coincides with rising substance abuse. The General Education Department is actively educating students on the harm of drugs, alcohol, and their societal impact.
Rajesh, speaking for the General Education Minister, emphasized that drug abuse alone does not account for the escalating violence. The minister also pointed to influences from web series, cinema, and social media addiction. He stressed the urgency of scientific approaches to tackle these issues and called for youth involvement in awareness campaigns.
State Sports Minister V Abdurahiman revealed plans for an extensive state-wide anti-drug campaign starting May 1. The campaign will promote sports as a drug alternative, with collaborative efforts from various MLAs. Initiatives such as forming vigilance committees in schools and integrating drug awareness into curricula are underway to fight the menace.
