Electrical Scare at Jamtara School: Smoke Sends 16 to Hospital

Sixteen students from Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya in Jamtara, Jharkhand, were rushed to a community health center after smoke from an electrical short-circuit filled their hostel room on Friday evening, an official reported. Fortunately, the students recovered quickly and were released soon after primary treatment.

The incident was triggered when a nearby transformer was struck by lightning, causing it to catch fire, which led to the electrical short-circuit. Local residents acted swiftly to extinguish the fire and helped evacuate the students using a ladder from the rooftop.

The Jamtara Deputy Commissioner has ordered a comprehensive investigation under Additional Collector Punam Kachyap to determine the cause and prevent future occurrences. An audit of the electrical wiring in all government residential schools in the district is also planned.
