In the latest QS World University Sustainability rankings, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi emerges as India's premier institution, surpassing IIT Bombay and IIT Kharagpur. Lund University in Sweden claims the global top spot, marking its first ascent since the ranking's inception in 2023.

This year, India shines with 26 new entries, becoming one of only four higher education systems boasting over 100 universities in the rankings. Of India's 103 universities, 32 improved their positions, while 15 maintained their standings, and 30 saw a decline. IIT Delhi climbed to 205th position, showcasing a higher overall score compared to the previous iteration.

Indian institutions, particularly the IITs, excel in knowledge exchange and environmental sustainability, reinforcing higher education's pivotal role in combating climate change. Jessica Turner, CEO of QS, emphasizes the necessity for continued support for Indian universities to sustain their contributions to sustainable development, aligning with India's commitment to renewable energy and the Global South's development goals.
