The Punjab government has taken a significant step in education by partnering with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras-Pravartak. Together, they are introducing a statewide career guidance programme aimed at training teachers to become effective career mentors.
Punjab's Education Minister, Harjot Singh Bains, revealed that more than 5,000 teachers will undergo training. These teachers will be equipped to guide students toward informed and future-ready career choices, courtesy of an ambitious upskilling programme.
This groundbreaking initiative, the first of its kind on a state level in India, will offer teachers free online training. The programme includes foundational career counselling, skills for classroom sessions, and one-on-one guidance, expanding access to high-demand careers and comprehensive guidance aligned with emerging global trends.
