Over 600 schools in three cyclone-hit provinces of Sri Lanka are set to remain closed, promoting students without term tests, according to the Ministry of Education. Grades 6 to 10 are exempt from third-term exams this year, as reported by Newsfirst Lanka.
The Education Ministry stated that the decision affects 640 schools, where students will advance to the next grade sans assessments. Local authorities will determine school reopenings based on their regional conditions, stated Deputy Education Minister Madhura Seneviratne.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake announced that efforts are underway to rehabilitate the disaster-stricken central hill areas, with plans for 8,000 new homes while compensations are expedited for affected families. The disaster impacted 2.2 million people, with thousands of homes destroyed or damaged.
