The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced an alternative date for students in West Bengal scheduled to sit for the JEE (Main) 2026 Session-I on January 23. This decision follows interventions from West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar, who highlighted the clash with Saraswati Puja and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's birthday.
In light of these cultural observances, NTA stated via a post on X that candidates in West Bengal would be assigned another date from the advertised JEE (Main) session dates. The agency encouraged students to reach out via the official helpdesk for further assistance.
Both Banerjee and Majumdar have taken credit for the change, emphasizing the importance of allowing students to participate in the significant cultural celebrations without academic pressure. The move was seen as accommodating the cultural sentiments of West Bengal's populace.
