In a significant development, IIT-Gandhinagar's standing committee has been tasked with reviewing the role of Michel Danino as a guest professor. This comes after the Supreme Court's directive to disassociate from Danino following a controversy over a chapter on judicial corruption in an NCERT textbook.
Michel Danino, a recipient of the Padma Shri, has been associated with IIT-Gandhinagar since 2011. He was also involved in drafting social science textbooks for NCERT. The controversy led to the Supreme Court instructing governments and institutions to cut ties with Danino, impacting his academic association.
The Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice Surya Kant, expressed concerns about Danino and others potentially misrepresenting facts about the judiciary. As a result, the court deemed their involvement in curriculum development inappropriate.
