As the educational landscape evolves, experts underscore the importance of re-integrating indigenous knowledge into higher education curricula. Atul Kothari, Secretary of the Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas, spoke at a national seminar at IIIT Allahabad, highlighting the need for a synthesis of traditional and modern pedagogical methods.
Kothari emphasized that an interdisciplinary approach, weaving ancient texts with modern science, is crucial. The inclusion of subjects such as Ayurveda, Yoga, and Astronomy can make students more aware of their cultural and educational heritage's current relevance.
Professor Mukul Sharad Sutavane from IIIT Allahabad and Professor B S Murty from IIT Hyderabad echoed the call for integrating Indian knowledge systems, noting a successful MTech program centered on Indian heritage. The seminar also featured discussions on the status of these knowledge systems across IIITs and lectures on curriculum development focused on well-being and consciousness.
