Bihar's Mandate: Lighten Student Loads with NCERT Guidelines

The Bihar Education Department has issued a directive to all schools, both private and government-aided, to strictly adhere to the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) guidelines. The directive aims to ensure that school bags do not weigh more than 10% of a student's body weight.

As part of this initiative, schools are required to install weighing scales on campus to frequently check the weight of students' bags. Non-compliance could result in actions against violating private institutions. Education Minister Mithlesh Tiwari stated that this move aims to alleviate the physical burden on students, highlighting the necessity for a stress-free educational environment.

The regulation emphasizes the importance of a balanced timetable to prevent students from carrying unnecessary materials. The enforcement of these guidelines is in line with the state's broader efforts towards a more transparent and equitable education system under Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary's leadership. This initiative coincides with other reforms addressing issues such as arbitrary school fee hikes.
