At least 10 UKG students were injured after a wall of an adjacent under-construction building collapsed onto the roof of a private school here on Saturday, police said.

The incident triggered by a severe thunderstorm caused a portion of the school roof to cave in, trapping the children under the debris, they said.

According to the police, the incident occurred at the Hans Memorial school in Bharat colony at around 9 am. It was the last day of the class, as summer vacations were declared from Monday.

Around 13 students were present in the class at the time of the incident.

Out of the 10 injured, four students -- Deepti, Divya, Meera and Nandu -- suffered serious head injuries while others were discharged after receiving first aid.

All the injured students were taken to BK Hospital for treatment.

School staff immediately launched rescue efforts and pulled the students out from beneath the rubble.

Following the incident, family members rushed to the school and then to the hospital. Police also reached the spot and inspected the site.

The school was evacuated immediately after the accident.

The police said that Deepanshu is constructing a four-storey house and was erecting a four-inch wall without pillars. The school management had repeatedly requested security measures.

''We are gathering information about construction to determine whether it had permission. Action will be taken as per the law'', a senior police officer said.

Further investigation is underway, the officer said.
