The gripping K-drama series, "All of Us Are Dead," took the world by storm with its intense portrayal of a zombie apocalypse. Viewers eagerly awaited the release of Season 2, especially after Season 1 left us on a suspenseful note. The good news arrived on June 6, 2022, when it was officially announced that "All of Us Are Dead" Season 2 was in the works.

Production updates on All of Us Are Dead Season 2

Initial reports suggested that production for Season 2 might commence in September 2022, but it appears this information was incorrect. According to an interview with Park Ji-hu, one of the stars of the series, in March 2023, filming for the second season had not yet begun. Fortunately, unlike the ongoing writers' and actors' strikes in Hollywood, the production of "All of Us Are Dead" Season 2 is expected to proceed smoothly as it is based in South Korea.

However, despite the announcement in June 2022, Park Ji-hu confirmed in March 2023 that filming had been delayed. Cameras are not expected to start rolling until late 2023 at the earliest due to the busy schedules and commitments of the cast to other projects. If production begins in early 2024, fans may anticipate the premiere of "All of Us Are Dead" Season 2 in December 2024, allowing for the necessary post-production work. A January 2025 release window is also plausible, as Season 1 originally premiered in the same month in 2022.

A quick recap of All of Us Are Dead

The series revolves around a failed science experiment conducted by Hyosan High science teacher Lee Byeong-chan, resulting in a mysterious virus that transforms humans into zombies. The infection quickly spreads throughout the school and the entire city, leading to a state of emergency and a lockdown. A group of students trapped in Hyosan High must unite to survive the zombie apocalypse and await rescue.

Understanding the end of Season 1

The climax of Season 1 witnessed a dramatic turn of events. With the authorities deciding to bomb the infected city of Hyosan in a desperate attempt to eradicate the outbreak, Cheong-san and the remaining survivors raced to find safety. Tragically, Gwi-nam bit Cheong-san, leaving him to face the prospect of becoming a zombie or a "halfbie." In a heroic act, Cheong-san sacrificed himself to save his friends, engaging in a final battle with Gwi-nam that culminated in both of them falling into an elevator shaft and being consumed by flames.

The surviving students, meanwhile, escaped to the evacuated city of Yangdong, where they had to fend off a horde of zombies. This encounter resulted in the loss of one of their own, Wu-jin. Additionally, Nam-ra struggled with her growing bloodlust, prompting her to distance herself from the group to protect them. Eventually, the six remaining survivors—On-jo, Su-hyeok, Hyo-ryeong, Dae-su, Ha-ri, and Mi-jin—encountered the authorities and were rescued, finding refuge in a quarantine camp.

A significant time jump then occurred, with the quarantine camp's conditions becoming less stringent. On-Jo managed to sneak out at night to leave gifts at a memorial outside the camp. However, her discovery of a campfire on the rooftop of Hyosan High led to a shocking revelation. Nam-ra, whom they had presumed to be lost, was found on the rooftop. Nam-ra's cryptic statement, "They're back," hinted at the return of more "halfbies," leaving On-Jo and her friends stunned.

What to expect in All of Us Are Dead Season 2

The director of "All of Us Are Dead," Lee Jae-kyoo, teased in February 2022 that Season 2 could delve into "the survival of the zombies." This suggests that the next season may explore the perspective of the infected, including new races of zombies, such as the immune and immortal. The survival of Cheong-San, presumed dead in Season 1, is also expected to be a central storyline. Actor Yoon Chan-young expressed his desire for his character to survive and potentially reunite with Nam-jo.

Should Cheong-San return in Season 2, his loyalty and love for Nam-jo could lead to an emotional reunion and his role in saving his friends from rogue hybrid zombies. Season 2 is poised to introduce new characters, formidable villains, and intricate storylines alongside the resurgence of more powerful zombies.

Who's returning for All of Us Are Dead Season 2?

The first season featured a talented ensemble cast, including Yoon Chan-young, Park Ji-hu, Cho Yi-hyun, Park Solomon (Lomon), Yoo In-soo, Lee Yoo-mi, Kim Byung-chul, Jeon Bae-soo, Lee Kyu-hyung, Im Jae-hyeok, Ha Seung-ri, Lee Eun-saem, and others in leading roles. While some characters from Season 1 may not have survived, the core group is expected to return in Season 2, including On-jo, Su-hyeok, Dae-su, Ha-ri, Mi-jin, and Hyo-rung.

Despite Cheong-San's apparent demise, the presence of Yoon Chan-yeong in Season 2's announcement video suggests a potential comeback. Cho Yi-hyun, who portrayed Nam-ra, the halfbie, is confirmed to return. Additional cast members for Season 2 have yet to be announced.

As of now, there is no official trailer or release date available for "All of Us Are Dead" Season 2. Stay tuned for further updates on the South Korean series.
