In a moving reunion, two friends, Mujeeb and Jayesh, were emotionally reunited on Tuesday, a week after deadly landslides devastated their villages in Kerala's Wayanad. Hundreds were killed, and countless others displaced by the tragedy.

The pair, unaware of each other's fate, embraced tightly and reminisced about their cherished friendship. 'We are neighbors. Seeing him after eight days, not knowing if he was alive, was surreal,' Mujeeb emotionally shared with a Malayalam news channel.

Expressing gratitude for their unlikely meeting, the two friends wished for the safe return of all their neighbors. 'We pray that everyone is found, just as we met today,' Jayesh said. He stressed the deep bonds of unity in their multi-religious community, lamenting the loss but vowing never to forget their unique connection.

The number of fatalities from the catastrophic landslides in Kerala on July 30 rose to 226 as of Monday, with search and rescue efforts continuing in the hardest-hit areas.
