The highly anticipated release of 'Padatik,' a film by Srijit Mukherjee based on the life and works of auteur Mrinal Sen, has been postponed in Bangladesh due to prevailing unrest. The film will, however, premiere in India on August 15.
Featuring acclaimed Bangladeshi actor Chanchal Chowdhury in the lead role, 'Padatik' was originally scheduled for a simultaneous release in India and Bangladesh. ''The current situation in the neighbouring country is not conducive enough for any film release,'' explained producer Firdausal Hasan to PTI. Despite the delay, Chowdhury's portrayal of Mrinal Sen has garnered widespread praise, though his attendance at a special screening in India remains uncertain.
In preparation for 'Padatik,' Mukherjee delved into extensive research during the COVID-19 lockdown, utilizing books, documents, and his own articles, even incorporating tools and equipment from Sen's films. Mukherjee describes 'Padatik' as a classical biopic chronicling Sen's life, including his struggle with the decision to quit filmmaking for his previous job as a medical representative.
