Former External Affairs Minister K Natwar Singh passed away on Saturday night at the age of 93 after a prolonged illness, family sources confirmed. He breathed his last at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, where he had been admitted for the past couple of weeks.

Born in 1931 in Bharatpur district of Rajasthan, Singh had a distinguished career in Indian politics. He served as India's External Affairs Minister from 2004 to 2005 during the UPA-I government led by then-Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Singh also served as an ambassador to Pakistan and was closely associated with Prime Minister Indira Gandhi from 1966 to 1971. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1984 and authored several books. His last rites will be held on Sunday in Delhi.
