Ed Jackson: From Paralysis to Peaks - A Journey of Triumph

Former professional rugby player Ed Jackson, who defied medical opinion by learning to walk again after a near-fatal spinal cord injury, stresses the importance of trauma victims resisting the impulse to suffer in silence.

Jackson broke his neck in 2017 when he mistakenly dived into the shallow end of a swimming pool, resulting in paralysis from the shoulders down. Initially told he would never walk again, Jackson's rigorous rehabilitation and recovery journey are detailed in the documentary film 'The Mountain Within Me'.

Home videos capture pivotal moments, including the first movement of his toes and his first steps six months later. The documentary shows Jackson climbing Snowdon, Wales' tallest mountain, on the first anniversary of his accident, and follows his expedition to summit Nepal's 7,000-metre Himlung Himal.

Directed by Polly Steele, 'The Mountain Within Me' features personal archive footage, mobile phone videos, social media posts, and interviews with Jackson's family. Reflecting on the experience was emotionally taxing for Jackson, but he emphasizes the need for raw and honest storytelling to offer genuine help to others.

Jackson, who co-founded the Millimetres 2 Mountains charity with his wife Lois, advises trauma survivors to be open about their struggles and embrace new adventures, emphasizing the importance of gratitude and a positive mindset. 'The Mountain Within Me' is set for release in UK cinemas on August 23.
