Mamata Banerjee Denies Threatening Junior Doctors Amid Protest

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday denied allegations that she threatened junior doctors at state-operated hospitals, who have maintained a 21-day ceasework in protest of the alleged rape and murder of a woman medic. Banerjee insists that she has always backed the medics' cause.

Speaking candidly, Banerjee stated on X, 'Let me most emphatically clarify that I have not uttered a single word against the students or their movements. I totally support their movement. It is genuine. I never threatened them, as some people are accusing me of doing. This allegation is completely false.'

During a rally by the Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad, Banerjee urged the striking doctors to resume duty, emphasizing that she does not wish to lodge FIRs against them, considering their future careers. Despite her appeal, the doctors interpreted her remarks as a 'veiled threat' and decided to continue their protest.
