Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole has stated that a simple apology for the collapse of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's statue will not suffice as it has 'hurt the pride of Maharashtra'.

These remarks came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi apologized for the incident during his address in Palghar on Friday, acknowledging the impact on those who revere the historical figure.

The statue, located at Rajkot fort in Sindhudurg district, fell on August 26 shortly after its unveiling by the PM on Navy Day, December 4, 2023.

Patole emphasized that the incident signifies a greater failure, suggesting negligence on part of the Prime Minister and his team in ensuring the statue's stability. He argues that key figures, including the Chief Minister and Deputy CMs, should step down as a result of the mishap.

The Congress leader accused the BJP government of rushing the statue's installation for political gains, leading to its poor construction and ultimate collapse. He also called out the BJP for repeatedly exploiting Shivaji Maharaj's name for votes and failing to honor his legacy.
