Residents of Shimla, under the CPI(Marxist) banner, conducted a peace march to address rising communal tensions following disputes over a mosque in Sanjauli.
The 'Sadbhavna' march proceeded from the Deputy Commissioner's office to the Ridge via Lower Bazaar, concluding with a pledge for peace near Mahatma Gandhi's statue.
Former MLA and CPI(M) leader Rakesh Singh highlighted the need for citizens to uphold human values and constitutional principles as communal violence threatens the state's image and tourism industry.
Former Shimla Mayor Sanjay Chauhan emphasized the growing communal tensions in the state and the critical need for harmony and brotherhood.
Meanwhile, the Devbhoomi Sangharsh Samiti, a Hindu-right group, is planning statewide protests for the demolition of the Sanjauli mosque, intensifying the situation.
