Actor Govinda sustained a leg injury on Tuesday when his revolver accidentally discharged at his Mumbai home as he was about to leave for the airport, police reported.
The 60-year-old actor, now out of danger, is recuperating at a private hospital. Widely celebrated for his comedic timing and dance skills, Govinda assured fans he's recovering well through an audio statement.
"With the blessings of my fans, parents, and god, I'm getting better. I thank Dr. Agarwal and all of you for your prayers," the 'Hero No 1' actor and Shiv Sena member conveyed.
The incident occurred around 4.45 am, just before Govinda was to catch a 6 am flight to Kolkata for a show, shared his manager Shashi Sinha. The revolver went off accidentally while Govinda was placing it in the cupboard. Mumbai Police have seized the firearm for further examination, and security at Govinda's Juhu residence has been enhanced.
Govinda's brother, Kirti Kumar, described the occurrence as "strange" and counted him "lucky to survive." Kumar added that the operation was successful and that doctors expect Govinda to stay hospitalized for 2-3 days unless he feels well enough to go home sooner.
No formal complaint has been lodged; however, police are investigating and conducted a panchnama at Govinda's home.
