Assam's Kaziranga National Park, famed as the sanctuary of the one-horned rhino, reopened for the 2024-25 tourist season on Tuesday following its closure during the monsoons.
State Forest Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary inaugurated the season at a ceremony in the park's western range at Bagori. Patowary expressed optimism that the park would exceed last year's record of 3.27 lakh visitors, thanks to enhanced infrastructure and new attractions, including additional tourist boats.
''The visit of dignitaries such as the president and the prime minister of our country, Bhutan's king and others has also helped in bringing more tourists,'' he noted. Other highlights include launched trekking and birding activities, a new wildlife-themed eco shop, and a guidebook on Asian elephant conservation. Additionally, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. contributed an animal rescue vehicle to aid in wildlife rescue and rehabilitation efforts.
