The Left government in Kerala is opposing the Centre's recent gazette notification that imposes restrictions on fireworks, which could disrupt the iconic Thrissur Pooram festival. This has raised concerns among festival enthusiasts, a sentiment echoed by State Revenue Minister K Rajan.
In a formal letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rajan described the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry's October 11 notification as highly disappointing. He highlighted specific concerns, such as the increase in safety distances, that threaten the traditional conduct of the festival's fireworks display.
The letter points out that new conditions demand unreasonable distances between spectators, assembly sheds, and fireworks displays, potentially hindering the festival experience. Rajan seeks the Prime Minister's intervention to amend these rules and preserve the festival's vibrant traditions.
