Ropeway Rifts: Jammu & Kashmir Tackles Protests

Jammu and Kashmir's administration has convened a committee to negotiate with protestors against the Katra ropeway project. Following talks with local leaders, decisions have been made to release detained protestors and pause the project. The ropeway aims to ease access to the Vaishno Devi shrine.

The administration of Jammu and Kashmir has established a four-member committee to engage in dialogue with protestors opposing the Katra ropeway project. This decision was announced on Tuesday, alongside the release of all individuals detained during recent protests.

Jammu Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar explained that these resolutions came after extensive consultations with civil society representatives. As a result, the detained individuals will be released, and the local market is expected to reopen.

The ropeway project, intended to improve access to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine, will be on hold pending the committee's discussions. The committee includes prominent officials like Kumar and the Shrine Board's CEO. The samiti, which had triggered a shutdown in protest, hopes the process will proceed without interference.
