Benedict Cumberbatch is stepping into a key role in 'Blood on Snow,' an indie adaptation of the Jo Nesbo crime thriller. The film, directed by Cary Fukunaga, sees Cumberbatch joining a cast that includes Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Eva Green, and Ben Mendelsohn, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Cumberbatch replaces Tom Hardy, who withdrew due to scheduling conflicts. Filming is slated to start later this month in Latvia. Aaron Taylor-Johnson plays Olav, a hitman paid to kill his boss's unfaithful wife. When Olav decides against the murder due to falling in love with her, a violent mob war looms.

Cumberbatch is cast as the Fisherman, a rival mob boss, though further details remain scarce. The screenplay, co-written by Nesbo and Ben Powers, is a Department M production with Mike Larocca and Michael Schaefer financing. Cumberbatch's recent work includes a Netflix miniseries 'Eric' and an ensemble role in the latest Guy Ritchie project.
