In a candid revelation, Bradley Wiggins, the illustrious 2012 Tour de France winner, admitted his struggle with cocaine addiction following his retirement from cycling. Wiggins, now 45, shared how his addiction had taken a toll on his family, acknowledging the turbulent period in his life.
Speaking to the Observer, Wiggins detailed the struggles that led to a sense of isolation. 'I was a functioning addict,' he admitted, revealing that his son often worried about finding him deceased due to his substance abuse. Wiggins emphasized his realization of the dire situation and his resolve to change.
Interestingly, former cycling champion Lance Armstrong, who faced his own doping scandal, extended support to Wiggins during his recovery. Armstrong's involvement and offer to assist with therapy have been significant in Wiggins' journey towards sobriety and mental health recovery.
