Film actress Minu Muneer was apprehended by the Cyber Police for allegedly making derogatory remarks about veteran actor-director Balachandra Menon on social media, according to police statements made on Tuesday.

Muneer was detained on Monday but was subsequently released on bail, having secured prior relief from the Kerala High Court.

The complaint against her, which led to her arrest, was lodged last October, accusing her of repeatedly making offensive comments online following the release of the Hema Committee report, a document addressing harassment issues facing women in the Malayalam film industry.

Charges filed against Muneer include Section 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for criminal intimidation, Section 67 of the Information Technology Act for publishing or transmitting obscene content, and Section 120(o) of the Kerala Police Act for causing nuisance through communication, officials noted.
