Historic Ensemble: 7,000 Women Unite in Barpeta for Record-Breaking Thiyanam Recital

In an unprecedented gathering, 7,000 women converged in Assam's Barpeta district to perform 'Thiyanam', a Vaishnavite devotional recital, in a bid to make it to the record books for the largest ensemble of its kind, according to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The recital took place in Howly on the eve of the 'tirobhav tithi', marking the death anniversary of the revered Vaishnavite saint-scholar Srimanta Sankardeva, whose compositions are a staple for the 'Thiyanam'.
Participants hailed from diverse regions including Guwahati, Darrang, and Nalbari, uniting under the banner of the Howly Raas Celebration Committee to showcase the enduring legacy of the Sankari-Sattriya culture.
