The Maharashtra government has elevated Shri Tuljabhavani Devi Sharadiya Navratri Mahotsav to premier state festival status, Minister Shambhuraj Desai announced. The revered festival, hosted at Tuljapur in Dharashiv district from September 22 to October 2, will highlight traditional folk arts including 'Gondhali' songs, 'Bharud', and 'Jakhadi' dance.
The 12th-century Tuljabhavani Temple, a focal point for almost 50 lakh devotees from across Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, and beyond, stands central to the celebrations. The festival transforms the town into a vibrant cultural hub, uniting people in religious fervor.
This year's festival will feature esteemed cultural performances and a striking 300-drone light show. The tourism department will live-stream the festival, opening worldwide access to the festivities. Additionally, initiatives in sustainable tourism and local economic boosts through empanelling heritage sites and fairs are on the docket.
