Delhi Government Strives to Purify Yamuna for Chhath Festival

The Haryana government has increased water release into the Yamuna River to maintain its cleanliness for the upcoming Chhath festival. The Haryana government has proactively increased the discharge of water into the Yamuna ahead of the Chhath festival, supporting the BJP-led Delhi government's initiatives to keep the river clean during the celebrations, sources revealed on Wednesday.

In an effort to combat pollution, the Delhi Jal Board has employed de-foaming sprays. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta recently inspected preparations at Kalindi Kunj Chhath Ghat and briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi on ongoing measures.

An unprecedented release of around 8,000 cusecs of water since October 21 has been recorded, aided by an extended monsoon. While the added water flow helps temporarily reduce pollutants, experts warn that sustainable solutions are needed for long-term river health.
