Remembering Assam's Hero: Lachit Borphukan's Legacy

Union Home Minister Amit Shah commemorated the birth anniversary of Lachit Borphukan, celebrated for thwarting the Mughal empire's Northeast expansion. Known for the pivotal Battle of Saraighat, Borphukan symbolizes patriotism and leadership, securing Assam from Mughal invasions. Shah lauded his valor and cultural safeguarding role.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday honored the illustrious Lachit Borphukan, an Ahom era military commander famous for halting the Mughal Empire's Northeast advancements, on his birth anniversary. Shah described Borphukan's steadfast patriotism and leadership as an everlasting beacon of inspiration for patriots.

Lachit Borphukan is best known for leading the Battle of Saraighat, a significant confrontation on the Brahmaputra's banks near present-day Guwahati, marking a critical defensive success in Assam's resistance against Mughal infiltration.

Paying tribute, Shah stated, "Tributes to one of history's greatest warriors, Ahom General Lachit Barphukan Ji, on his Jayanti. His unyielding patriotism and unmatched military acumen shielded Assam and Northeast India from the Mughals and protected the region's cultural heritage. His life will inspire patriots endlessly."
